For most ex-smokers the greatest side-effect most typically associated with giving up using cigarettes will be an increase in weight. Beliefs differ whether or not this is a result of a general change in your body’s metabolism or the fact that the individual eats more to fill the amount of time that they used to spend cigarette smoking. My own individual belief is that it’s a combination of the two. In the first months of quitting smoking cigarettes I did not have a significant weight gain and also I didn’t think that I was particularly consuming more either.
